Osong Ligaw on Cebu Pacific

I don't think it's a good year for Cebu Pacific. They have been making headlines recently, and these stories are not exactly a good sight. There was the Davao crash, and then recently this. The latter, apparently resulted to many passengers complaining on how Cebu Pac crew (mis)handled the situation. I've been protecting Cebu Pac for quite some time now, and perhaps the management must take a quick break, reflect, and re-train their crew.

Cebu Pac Davao Plane Crash

Is Cebu Pac not handling her passengers well???? Hmmmmmm
I wish solving problems in Cebu Pac is as easy as refreshing the page -- or perhaps choosing another airline?

Osong Ligaw Wants Some Mabuhay Miles

My human is thrilled to be apply for her PNB Mabuhay Miles Credit Card. Since her current card offers Delta Airlines perks, which she never could have used in her life time, she feels she's not getting any benefits from her card. Hence, the decision to switch to PNB Mabuhay Miles Platinum.
Let's wait for a couple of months to see what will happen to my human with her new card.

Osong Ligaw goes to Bugis Street

Whoever says that the Orchard Road is the ultimate shopping district of Singapore has not been to Bugis Street - the Divisoria of Singapore. Since my human has had her taste of Orchard Road for high-fashion shopping already, she decided to go to Bugis one Sunday morning.

Watch out for this sign just to check you're on the right place
Depending on where you are, you may take a bus or the EW Line to Bugis. My human, the master of comfort and convenience took the latter option. From the MRT, you will have to pass through the mall and across is already the Bugis Street. After you cross the street, you will enter a semi-A/C mall where you fill find many stalls offering various (and I mean various) products to choose from.

If you have the luxury of time and wanna buy a lot of pasalubongs, Bugis is certainly the place for you. Prices here are way cheaper than those souvenirs at the Orchard Road. You have a lot of options: souvenir items, clothes, food, bags, gadgets, accessories, chocolate, and uhm... something else.

Some adult toys for 23 and above
Well, in a shop like this, the minimum age of a shopper should be 23. My human is 29, but has the face of a 12 year old and a maturity of an 8 year old, so you can bet that she was not allowed inside.

MOVING ON.

As you shop in Bugis Street, I suggest that you look through the stores well to find the best buys. For example, a 5 for S$10 set of keychains at Orchard may be 18 for S$10 at Bugis. HOwever, my human and I found 24 for S$10! That is like S$.42 or Php13.53 per piece. In Singapore, that is a cheap buy already!

18 keychains for S$10!

8 pairs of earrings for S$10!
Bugis Street is also a haven for everything food. There, you'll see chocolate bars, candies, and local specialties.
~Expect the smell of durian all over the place.

Chocolate bars

If you plan to go to Bugis Street, you have to plan your trip well. Expect a lot of people during the weekends, especially on Sundays because sales are usually scheduled then. Also, you may opt not to bring young cubs with you because at noon, it tends to be super hot at that time.

Bugis Street is indeed Singapore's epicentre of cheap buying, and is surely a must-visit.

Must. Love. Cats.

Osong Ligaw goes to Singapore Zoo

Just got home from Mandai Lake Road where Singapore Zoo - self-proclaimed as The World's Best Rainforest Zoo. Well, I haven't been to many zoos, I think this is the first time I've ever been to a zoo actually, so I really can't tell. Zoos are where they cage animals, and I have big issues about it.
Waiting for a cab
I refuse to be eaten without a fight!
If you plan to go to Singapore Zoo, I super suggest that you take a cab instead of a bus. The bus stop from the zoo entails a long walk, and if you're already tired from roaming the zoo, it's not gonna be a happy experience.

Kangaroos within your reach! Seriously!

Anyway, Singapore Zoo is one of the wildlife attractions in Singapore: Jurong Bird Park, Singapore Zoo, River Safari, and the Night Safari. Unfortunately, my human did not buy any ticket for River and Night Safari.

The Singapore Zoo covers the 26 hectare wildlife park. It also has over 2,000 kinds of animals from over 300 species of animals divided into several exhibits and zones. You can view more about them from here.
Directions will surely assist "lost" travellers like yours truly

Thankfully I don't have a scheduled "feeding time". I can eat whenever I want.

White tiger! Love!!!

What is more fascinating is that a lot of animals roam freely the area! Yes, that means monkeys hang wildly from tree to trees, squirrels chase each other on the streets, and birds fly freely in the sky!

There are also several shows that will surely entertain everyone. Fortunately, we were able to watch the Splash Safari Show and the Elephants at Work and Play Show. You will see the schedules of each show, but I suggest that you go to the venue a little early to make sure that you have a seat. Today, several pre-schools are having their field trip so it's a little crowded in the shows.

Behind me are the large Asian elephants!

Kids and adults can also enjoy Kids World which, like in Jurong Bird Park, offers a refreshing break to zoo goers.

Bears of the World - *Ehem! I am actually a grizzly bear
"Admit it, human. We're lost! Again!"
As a Filipino going to Singapore, your trip will not be complete without going to Jollibee at Lucky Plaza at the Orchard Road. I have never been a fan of Jabee, but I've been eating Hainanese Chicken all month! So a chicken joy is really fabulous!

The bee who cooks meets the bear who blogs

Home at Jollibee, Orchard Road
Tomorrow, we will be going to Adventure Cove so expect another grand adventure there!

Osong Ligaw goes to Punggol Park and Cheng San Public Library

When you're in Singapore, every move costs a lot of money. Whenever you need to go somewhere or do something, you need to make sure you have a cash ready for that.

Except my human.

I dunno if she's absolutely poor already or she's just creative to kill her boredom, but she actually manages to find things to do in Singapore that do not cost her anything at all.

My human is a nature buff. On our walks, especially when we're lost, she loves to stop and look at the flowers or try to pet a random feral cat. Or eat food.

My human enjoying a traditional "Muah Chee" for the first time. She went for thirds actually.
Muah Chee - glutinous rice flour coated in a mixture of sugar and finely chopped peanuts

  • As I was saying, my human is nature buff. It broke her heart when the planned trip to East Coast Park did not push through because of the crazy weather that day so she decided to head to Punggol Park

Of course, Punggol Park is nothing compared to East Coast Park, but visiting Punggol Park will not be a disappointment. This park has facilities to cater both the young and the old like many parks here in SG.

Large trees like this give joggers some shade

Towering trees welcome the visitors of Punggol Park

Visitors can do a lot of activities at Punggol Park like barbecuing, cycling, exercising, inline skating, and if you go really morning, you can join the locals for some Tai Chi. There are also several exercise equipment for the adults. What is more exciting or relaxing is that these equipment face the pond.

Unfortunately, my human is not a fan of exercise (and it shows on her *ehem! weight) so she dared not try any of these exercise equipment. Yes, these are actually free for everyone so it's like going to the gym for free!

Of course, Punggol Park is kid-friendly and it has this huge jungle gym, swing set, and sand box for kids to enjoy. Benches are located near the area so Mums and Dads can simply read a book or eat while their cubs enjoy.

Watching them human
You may also try fishing at the pond here at Punggol Park.

Fishing - for compliments!

  • Besides going to the park, my human has discovered that the nearby mall in our area has a cozy public library - Cheng San Public Library. Yes, it's a public library inside the mall. I think it will be a great idea in the Philippines, too.
Cheng San Library is open from 11 am to 9pm and is free for local and foreigners alike. Unless of course you decide to borrow a book - which my human did not do. It was very comfortable reading inside the library and everything is on your reach!

It has a rich collection books featuring *Singapore collection, *General, *Koleksi Melayu, *Magazines, *comics, *CD-roms, *Health and fitness, *Travel guide, *Cookery, *Fiction, *Computer and IT, and *Parenting among others.

However, the more exciting part of Cheng San Library is the Children's Section. My human is guilty to have visited this part of the library more often. In fact, books in the Children's Section comprise of almost half of the ENTIRE collection of Cheng San. It also features books in four languages: English, Chinese, Malay, and Tamil.

~Not to mention, this section of the library also has the most comfortable seats!

Some books from the Children's Section
A classic!
You may learn more about Cheng San Library and other libraries in SG from here.

Since my human was reading this book, I was tempted to send a text warning to her husband in the Philippines.
On the other hand, I enjoy reading "A - Z of Everything Horrid".

Guess, who was looking at this collection

Is this a sign of where I'm going next?
